After a freight train transporting crude oil derailed in Lynchburg, VA, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) sent a letter to President Obama and Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Burwell requesting the immediate release of comprehensive rules for crude oil transport safety, recommended last week by the Department of Transportation. Additionally, Rep. Maloney urged that the process of removing or replacing inadequate rail tank cars, or DOT-111 cars, be expedited to prevent tragic train derailments.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) criticized Senate Republicans’ refusal to pass a bill increasing the federal minimum wage today. The Senate bill, which failed by a partisan procedural vote of 54-42, would raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 over the next three years. Increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 would raise the living wage for nearly 1 million hardworking New Yorkers and their families, including tens of thousands of women who are twice as likely to earn the minimum wage.
