After the second successful heroin bust by FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force in Orange County, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) urged expedited approval of Dutchess and Putnam Counties in the NY/NJ High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) in order to bring additional local, state and federal law enforcement resources critical to combatting drug trafficking in the Hudson Valley. Earlier this month, Maloney wrote to the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske in support of the HIDTA application submitted on behalf of Dutchess, Putnam and Rockland counties.

Washington, D.C. –  The House of Representatives unanimously passed Representative Sean Patrick Maloney’s Human Trafficking Prevention Act. Passed by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs in May, the legislation trains Foreign Service Officers working overseas at US Embassies to stem the demand for trafficking and spot victims before they are trafficked into the United States.

After months of urging the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to release comprehensive rules for improving crude oil transport safety, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) applauded the DOT’s initial comprehensive proposal issued today to immediately phase out the use of older DOT-111 tank cars, issue new standards for tanker cars carrying highly hazardous materials, reduce operating speeds, and require notification for first responders. During the public comment period, Maloney will also urge the DOT to consider adding local first responders as part of the notification to state emergency responders for trains carrying more than a million gallons of Bakken crude. In addition, Maloney urged DOT to move quickly on developing and expanding comprehensive oil spill response planning requirements – now currently in the preliminary stages.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), State Senator Terry Gipson, and local officials announced that the Philipstown North Highlands Fire District will receive $110,675 for an investment in new life-saving equipment. This investment, through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, will replace outdated equipment with the purchase of new breathing apparatuses, a device worn by first responders to provide breathable air in life-threatening conditions.
