Invites Families to FEMA Flood Map Information Session
After working with FEMA to reevaluate an entire section of households near Fishkill Creek, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced an information session in Fishkill that will help residents understand the new changes made in late 2013 that removed 125 households from the inclusion in the flood plain. Rep. Maloney has assisted dozens of constituents with FEMA issues. Constituent advocates are available to help constituents work one-on-one with FEMA if their property has been designated in a flood plain.

Continues to Urge Passage of Commuter Rail Passenger Safety Act
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) commended the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) initial recommendations following the December Metro-North accident. Specifically, the NTSB had three recommendations including installing inward and outward facing video and audio recorders, regularly reviewing recorder data and installing permanent speed restriction signs. Currently, the Federal Railroad Administration is nearing the conclusion of Operation Deep Dive, a 60-day safety review of Metro-North's protocols and procedures, including track and signal maintenance, inspection and repair, communication, and oversight of engineers.

Encourages Neighbors to Claim Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Care Tax Credit
Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) joined Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Hudson Valley CASH Coalition and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide to introduce a free tax preparation program available throughout Orange and Dutchess for middle class families and senior citizens. Rep. Maloney also encouraged his neighbors in the Hudson Valley to claim their Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which is a refundable federal and state income tax credit available to middle class workers and their families. Although 1.6 million New Yorkers qualified for the EITC, one fourth of those eligible nationwide for the tax credit didn’t claim it.

$2.4 Million Federal Investment Supported by Maloney Helped Hire New Firefighters
Twelve new recruits graduated today from the Newburgh Fire Academy in addition to two firefighters from Middletown. Newburgh Fire Chief Michael Vatter, Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy, and Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) presided over a graduation ceremony for a new class of firefighters in Newburgh. Graduates worked 520 hours and received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses, ladders and other equipment.
