Maloney: “Today, we hold the president accountable.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Donald John Trump, the 45th President of the United States of America. Two articles of impeachment have been brought against President Trump: Abuse of Power, and Obstruction of Congress.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement:

“There is clear and convincing evidence that President Trump used taxpayer money and official acts to pressure a foreign government to help him win re-election by slandering a fellow American. These actions are unworthy of the presidency.

“Today’s vote is about right and wrong and whether we still know the difference. Today, we hold the president accountable. If we fail to do so, future presidents would see corruption as without consequence – and there, our democracy goes to die.

“We inherit this Republic from our ancestors, and we borrow it from our children. With humility, we pray that the history of this day will guide us to a better future for our Nation.”
