Maloney Supports Bill to Protect Children and Give Child Care Workers Resources to Safely Operate Throughout COVID-19 Pandemic

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) helped pass the Ensuring Children and Child Care Workers Are Safe Act, a bipartisan bill that will give child care providers federal guidance and the resources needed to safely operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Safe child care during this pandemic isn’t optional – it is a necessity. I’m proud to support this bill, which will give our child care providers better resources and guidance from the federal government and help our states support safe child care across the Hudson Valley,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

This bill would require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide states with educational materials and assistance related to COVID-19 prevention in child care facilities; professional development for child care providers on health and safety; effective use of personal protective equipment; and operational modifications to prevent COVID-19 transmission. The bill would also create a grant program for states so they can better reach and support child care providers.

In July, Rep. Maloney helped pass the Child Care is Essential Act, which would create a $50 billion Child Care Stabilization Fund and invest in child care so providers across the Hudson Valley can safely reopen and operate amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
