Maloney Statement on the Senate Confirmation of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg

Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States Senate confirmed Pete Buttigieg to be the new United States Secretary of Transportation. Secretary Buttigieg’s nomination and confirmation is historic – he is the first openly gay cabinet official to be confirmed by the Senate.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement:

“Secretary of Transportation Buttigieg’s historic confirmation as the first openly LGBTQ Senate-confirmed cabinet member serves as an inspiration to LGBTQ people across the nation who will finally be represented in the highest levels of the Executive Branch.”

“As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I look forward to working with Secretary Buttigieg on everything from modernizing our roads and bridges to tackling the impacts of climate change on our nation’s infrastructure. In the midst of the ongoing economic and health crisis caused by the coronavirus, it will be more important than ever to rebuild and revitalize our infrastructure and bring good-paying jobs into our communities. With a forward-looking leader like Secretary Buttigieg at the helm, I am confident that we can work together to deliver for New Yorkers all throughout the Hudson Valley.”
