Maloney Statement on the Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

Washington, D.C.Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement after President Donald Trump announced his nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States:

“The rushed nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat is a direct threat to millions of Americans who have benefited from the protections Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought for as a lawyer and Supreme Court justice for over sixty years.

“President Trump is hellbent on decimating the Affordable Care Act and the healthcare of millions hangs in the balance. We must also safeguard Roe v. Wade’s promise that personal, medical decisions are left up to a woman and her doctor – not politicians. The progress we’ve made on these important issues, and LGBTQ+ equality, workers’ protections, equal access to the ballot box, civil rights and so much more are all on the line.

“The hypocrisy and cynicism of Mitch McConnell, Senate Republicans, and the White House in this moment in history is astounding.

“All Senate Democrats should oppose Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination, and this illegitimate process.”
