Maloney Statement on Senate Republicans’ Failure to Hold Donald Trump Accountable

Newburgh, NY - Today, the Senate voted to acquit former-President Donald Trump on the charge of incitement of insurrection following a violent attack by a mob – provoked by President Trump – during Congress’s Constitutionally-mandated counting of the Electoral Votes for the 2020 election.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement:

“Today, Senate Republicans failed to stand with the American people and uphold their oath to our Constitution, instead siding with a dangerous QAnon mob provoked by Donald Trump.

“The evidence is clear and overwhelming: the violent mob that descended on the Capitol that day lashed out at the former president’s command.

“Presidents must be held to account from their first day in office to their last. The failure by Senate Republicans to act is shameful and cowardly and puts more Americans in harm's way.”
