Maloney Statement on Senate Impeachment Vote

Feb 5, 2020
Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Today, the Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on two charges: Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement:

“The Senate’s ‘trial’ may be over, but the facts still stand: President Trump used taxpayer money and official acts to pressure a foreign government to help him win re-election by slandering a fellow American. His actions alone brought us to a heartbreaking conclusion: he had to be impeached.

“It is regrettable that the Senate did not treat the Intelligence Committee’s thorough evidence with the gravity it deserved – nor did they call witnesses like each of the past 15 impeachment trials.  Ultimately, these Senators chose to protect a corrupt politician, rather than our Republic.”
