Maloney’s Statement on West Point Tragedy
WASHINGTON – Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement after reports of a training accident at the U.S. Military Academy, located in New York’s 18th Congressional District, killed one cadet and injured 22 others:
“Randy and I grieve with the West Point community and Army families impacted by this morning’s tragic accident. The loss of a young cadet is heartbreaking, and our prayers are with all who were injured.
“While we are still learning more, my staff and I are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to work with the Academy as more details become available,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.
As of now, the U.S. Military Academy is reporting a total of 20 injured cadets and one death after this morning's accident. Two soldiers were also wounded. New York’s brave first responders are on the scene and Governor Cuomo has directed the State Office of Emergency Management to provide any resources necessary to assist.
