Representatives Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) and Chris Gibson (NY-19) commended the Senate introduction of their bill to prevent the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from implementing the new Hudson Valley capacity zone. In July, the Maloney-Gibson legislation to prohibit funds from enforcing FERC’s new capacity zone overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives and is now before the Senate as part of the FY 2015 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill. Maloney and Gibson originally introduced legislation to prohibit the capacity zone in March 2014.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney issued the following statement on the assault of Josef Kucher, a small business owner in Port Jervis.

Following the National Transportation Safety Board’s Railroad Accident Brief, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) urged passage of the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act (PRRIA) which would allow for significant investments in positive train control (PTC). In the report, the NTSB noted that “contributing to the accident was the absence of a positive train control system that would have automatically applied the brakes to enforce the speed restriction.” In addition, Rep. Maloney called for the appointment of at least two safety experts to serve on the board and the MTA Board Safety Committee - a number of board members are holdovers after their term expired in recent years. This week, MTA announced the hiring of a Chief Safety Officer to begin in December.
