Maloney Helps Pass Second, Bipartisan Coronavirus Response Package
Bill will provide free coronavirus testing, paid sick and family leave

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) helped pass Congress’s second, bipartisan COVID-19, or novel coronavirus, response package. The bill will provide: free coronavirus testing for every American who needs a test, including the uninsured, paid emergency leave for workers, unemployment insurance protections for furloughed workers; more money for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), senior and student meal programs, and food banks; and increased federal funds for Medicaid.

“During this critical time, Hudson Valley families deserve to know they’ll have access to free coronavirus testing and paid sick and family leave,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. We know we need more testing and better resources as we confront this public health crisis. This bipartisan bill will get us one step closer, while making Americans safer and more economically secure.”

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act is focused directly on providing support for New York families impacted by the coronavirus, and includes:

  • Free coronavirus testing for everyone who needs a test, including the uninsured.
  • Paid emergency leave, with both 14 days of paid sick leave and up to three months of paid family and medical leave.
  • Enhanced Unemployment Insurance, a first step that will extend protections to laid off or furloughed workers.
  • Strengthened food security initiatives, including SNAP, student meals, seniors’ nutrition and food banks.
  • Increased federal funds for Medicaid, as states face increased costs.
