Maloney Helps Pass Resolution Calling on Vice President Pence to Invoke the 25th Amendment

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan Resolution calling on the Vice President to convene and mobilize the Cabinet to activate the fourth section of the 25th Amendment, declaring the President incapable of executing the duties of his office. As such, the Vice President would immediately exercise powers as acting President. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement:

“The President of the United States is a clear and present danger. He has shown he is unfit to serve, and must step down before more violent, deadly acts are carried out by his mob – in our Nation’s capital and across the country.

“President Trump and his enablers have told an incendiary and pernicious lie – that the election was stolen – which ignited the violence. His actions are a clear violation of his oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. We cannot – and will not – tolerate a violent attack on the Capitol.

“Today, the House passed a Resolution calling on the Vice President to protect our Nation from the dangers President Trump imposes. If the Vice President fails to do his duty, we will do ours and proceed with impeachment.”
