Washington, D.C. – In an awards ceremony on May 11, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced the winners of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for the 18th Congressional District of New York.  The overall winner of this year’s competition is Shona Neary, a student at James I. O'Neill High School, who submitted a black and white photo titled: Tranquility. In addition, the Facebook Fan winner is Madeline Clark, also a student a O’Neill High School, who submitted a color photo titled: Hidden Beauty. All entries are available to view on Rep. Maloney’s Facebook.

“Across the Hudson Valley, we have such talented young folks who are extremely gifted in the arts,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “Congratulations to Shona whose artwork will represent the Hudson Valley in the United States Capitol for the next year.”

In March, Rep. Maloney invited high school students in the 18th Congressional District to submit an entry to the annual art contest, and a panel of local artists judged the entries. The competition was part of the annual “Congressional Art Competition — An Artistic Discovery.” Since 1982, more than 650,000 students from across the country have participated in the competition, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, which encourages Members of Congress to recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.
