Maloney Announces $75,000 Grant to Orange County for Senior Volunteer Program

Newburgh, NY - Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced Orange County Office for the Aging was awarded a $75,000 Seniors RSVP grant through the AmeriCorps’s Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for volunteering and service.

This grant will support over 500 Senior Corps volunteers in the RSVP program and expand Senior Corps’ presence in the Hudson Valley. The Orange County Office for the Aging is one of only nine awardees from New York State.

“In the midst of this pandemic, it is more important than ever that we support our Hudson Valley senior volunteers who are dedicating their time to ensure that community members are receiving the help that they need,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “I am proud to announce that the Orange County Office for the Aging has received this Senior Corps grant, and I am grateful for the hundreds of Senior Corps volunteers who support communities and New Yorkers right here in the Hudson Valley.”

“I am thrilled that this grant will allow Orange County to pair more local seniors with volunteer and community-based projects throughout the area. Staying connected is a key component to a healthy and happy life,” said AnnMarie Maglione, Director of the RSVP program, Orange County Office for the Aging. “We can’t wait to use these funds to lend a helping hand to our Hudson Valley neighbors.”

The Senior Corps RSVP Program – one of America’s largest volunteer networks for people 55 and older – helps communities tackle their toughest challenges, including combatting food insecurity, helping students transition to online schooling, connecting veterans to benefits and employment opportunities, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.

Senior Corps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which engages millions of Americans in service each year through Senior Corps and AmeriCorps programs and leads volunteer and civic engagement initiatives for the nation. Senior Corps expands the opportunity for seniors to serve the community in a volunteer capacity, and some eligible seniors can earn a small stipend through the program.
