Maloney: “Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was fired for being honest and doing her job.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, sat before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) for eight hours of questioning. Ambassador Yovanovitch was removed from her role in May by the Trump Administration. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), a member of the Intelligence Committee, released the following statement:

“While I cannot discuss the specifics of the eight hours of questioning I heard today, I can share that Ambassador Yovanovitch detailed a shocking abuse of presidential power in a deeply moving interview.

“At times, she became overcome with emotion and had to stop and leave the room before recounting how she was thrown to the wolves.

“It is clear to me that she was fired because she was a thorn in the side of those who sought to use the Ukrainian government for their own political and financial gain – and that includes President Trump.

“In other words, Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was fired for being honest and doing her job.”
