Education & Students

My father went to school on the GI bill. I was able to attend college because my parents scrimped and saved, and had a partner in the government. Our nation has a long tradition of investing in the education of our children and young people because that investment is crucial to our country’s economy.

In the last decade, college tuition has skyrocketed at universities and colleges across the country. This places an even greater burden on middle class families. Families are no longer sure that sending their children to college is worth the investment. That’s not good.

With student loan rates on the rise, this dream of attending college is slipping away for too many students. The out-of-control cost of college has forced the vast majority of New York's students to take out ballooning college loans. Despite congressional Republican efforts to dismantle the Higher Education Act, I'm working hard to reduce college students' crippling debt and make it easier - not harder - for young folks to get the education they need to succeed in this competitive, 21st century economy.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.
