Poughkeepsie, N.Y.- Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro, State Senator Terry Gipson, and Town of Wappinger Supervisor Barbara Gutzler announced a $1 million FAA investment at Dutchess County Airport in the Town of Wappinger. This federal investment will allow Dutchess County to rehabilitate runways and help install a new airfield lighting system
“This investment will create jobs, boost the local economy and shore up one of the busiest non-commercial airports in the state, while protecting the safety of our neighbors, businesses and visitors,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “I’m proud of our joint efforts with the County as we work to draw more businesses to Dutchess County.”
“The Dutchess County Airport is a vital economic development resource that provides an economic impact benefit of over $44 million annually. As we work to increase that economic impact, we are grateful to Congressman Maloney for his assistance in securing $1 million in FAA funding to ensure the Dutchess County Airport aviation infrastructure remains strong. This FAA funding, combined with other grant funding secured through New York State Economic Development designed to help encourage private investment, will help us make the Dutchess County Airport an unparalleled economic asset,” said Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
“I commend Congressman Maloney, our federal representatives and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro for their work to secure these federal grants to enhance the economic viability of Dutchess County’s airport. I look forward to continued partnerships between all levels of government to move Dutchess County’s economy forward,” said New York State Senator Terry Gipson.
“I am delighted to learn of this grant and I thank Congressman Maloney and his staff for their hard work in securing these monies. My thanks, too, to County Executive Molinaro for his determination in improving this county asset that lies within the Town of Wappinger. I look forward to an increase in commerce and in jobs which will improve our local economy and increase Wappinger’s profile as a great place to do business,” said Town of Wappinger Supervisor Barbara Gutzler.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) grant of $1,000,800 for Dutchess County Airport will be used to repave taxiways, upgrade markings, make drainage improvements, replace an outdated lighting system, and begin the design of a critical runway realignment project. In addition to ensuring safer travel in and out of the airport, these upgrades are essential for continued economic development in Dutchess County.
Last year, Rep. Maloney helped reverse the closure of Dutchess County Airport which was threatened by sequestration.
